Standard Rules For you to Play Rummy: A Beginner's Guide

Rummy is a popular card game that can be played by two to six players with a standard 52-card deck. The objective of the game is to form sets and runs of cards and be the first to get rid of all your cards. But before you start playing, you need to know the standard rules for you to play rummy. Here are some of the basic rules that you should follow:

The game begins with each player drawing a card from the deck. The player with the lowest card becomes the dealer and shuffles and deals the cards. The dealer deals 13 cards to each player in a clockwise direction.

The remaining cards are placed face down on the table as the stock pile. The top card of the stock pile is turned over and placed next to it as the discard pile.

The player to the left of the dealer starts the game by drawing a card from either the stock pile or the discard pile. Then, the player can either meld or lay off some cards, or do nothing. Melding means forming sets or runs of cards and placing them face up on the table. A set consists of three or four cards of the same rank, such as 7-7-7 or Q-Q-Q-Q. A run consists of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit, such as 4-5-6 of hearts or 10-J-Q-K of spades. Laying off means adding cards to existing melds on the table, either your own or your opponents'. For example, if there is a run of 4-5-6 of hearts on the table, you can lay off a 3 or a 7 of hearts to extend it.

After drawing and melding or laying off, the player must discard one card from their hand and place it face up on top of the discard pile. The turn then passes to the next player in a clockwise direction.

The game ends when one player gets rid of all their cards by melding, laying off, and discarding. This is called going out. The player who goes out scores zero points, while the other players score points equal to the sum of the values of their remaining cards in their hands. The values of the cards are as follows: Aces are worth 1 point, face cards (J, Q, K) are worth 10 points each, and numbered cards are worth their face value.

The game can also end when there are no more cards left in the stock pile. In this case, the player with the lowest score wins.

These are some of the standard rules for you to play rummy. However, there are many variations and customizations of rummy that you can try out with your friends and family. Some of these include different number of cards dealt, different scoring systems, different ways of going out, and different wild cards. You can also play rummy online with other players from around the world. Whatever way you choose to play rummy, remember to have fun and enjoy this classic card game!
